A large metropolitan hospital
Two employees of the hospital, a doctor and a nurse, were previously involved in an incident in which the Human Resources department intervened. As a result, an agreement was reached that all further contact between the two parties was to be of a strictly professional nature. Shortly thereafter, the nurse received an e-mail from the doctor in violation of this agreement. The doctor denied initiating any contact.
SunBlock experts were retained to investigate the origins of the e-mail as well as the doctor's computing activities. Hospital computers were seized and, with his consent, the doctor's home machine was also imaged. SunBlock's laboratory analysis of the machines showed no suspicious activities related to the matter. In addition, an e-mail virus was found on the doctor's home machine. SunBlock's further investigation of the virus indicated that it harvested e-mail addresses from the host machine and sent out various messages, keeping a database of e-mail addresses that it used. SunBlock investigators located the database and found the nurse's address in the database.
SunBlock helped the client resolve the HR incident and avoid wrongful termination and potential litigation.
