The client was named in a subpoena for an SEC investigation regarding trading irregularities. The client's laptop was included by the SEC as part of its discovery order.

The Investigation

The client's attorney requested that SunBlock experts examine the laptop prior to being surrendered to the SEC. SunBlock used its forensic examination methodology to duplicate the drive and create a list of keywords relevant to the investigation. From this data, SunBlock was able to demonstrate the following:

• All data on the drive were determined to be consistent with expectations
• Deletions of data were consistent with typical computer usage
• Some potentially suspicious deletions were attributable to the movement of files from one logical drive to another
